Medication to Manage Dementia

Once professionally diagnosed GPs may prescribe medication to manage the symptoms of dementia.

Medication may be in the form of “inhibitors“, which help to limit the impairments on the brain. There is a vast range of inhibitors available, all designed to target specific areas relative to the type of dementia.

Depending on the type of dementia and the person’s circumstances, Health Professionals may also prescribe “mood stabilizing” medicines such as antidepressants or antipsychotics.
